A palaeoanthropological team excavates a cave in Northern Laos
January 19, 2024

Palaeanthropologists and workers at Northern Laos’ Tam Pa Ling Cave (Cave of the Monkeys), discovered by palaeanthropologist Fabrice Demeter and his team in 2009. Since then, they have found seven individuals, all Homo sapiens, with the oldest one at 80,000 years old. This challenges the assumption that modern humans left Africa 50,000 years ago. Tam Pa Ling is situated on top of the Pa Hang Mountain, part of the Annamite Range that extends through Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.
